AROUND THE COMMUNITY: Deacon provides seder to Sacred Heart students

  Deacon Jim Lonick of Sacred Heart Parish in Shawano celebrated a traditional seder with the second-grade students April 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic School. The seder is a meal that Jews celebrate during the holiday of Passover every spring. The holiday lasts for eight days and nights. On the first two nights of Passover, a special meal called a seder is held.
CLUB NOTES: Bizi-Belles Home and Community Education
The Bizi-Belles Home and Community Education Club presented a wood flag with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Town of Belle Plaine in commemoration of the 45 years of service by the club to the community. The flag will be displayed at the town hall. Bizi-Belles was organized on Jan. 31, 1977, with 10 charter members living in the Belle Plaine township. Membership changed over the years.
CLUB NOTES: Northwoods Quilters
The Northwoods Quilters held their Biennial Quilt Show April 2-3 at the Marinette Rec Center. Vendors were selling sewing notions, material, sewing machines and barn quilts. There was also a boutique with handmade items for sale and attic treasures with used items at super savings. Mini raffle had over 30 smaller baskets with a wide variety from a homemade doll bed with miniature quilt and doll to wine and cheese.
CLUB NOTES: Delta Kappa Gamma, Nu Chapter
Jenny Hangartner, library project chairwoman, reported this year’s grant recipients during Nu Chapter’s April meeting held at the Clintonville High School instructional media center. Libraries for Rexford-Longfellow Elementary School in Clintonville and Bonduel High School each received a $200 grant.

Cantata tradition returns to Gillett
For the first time in three years, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett is ready to present an Easter cantata. “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” written, arranged and orchestrated by Bradley Knight, is a 45-minute performance that includes many well-known Easter melodies and also some contemporary songs. A cantata is a narrative piece of music for voices with instrumental accompaniment.
Prevea to give tips on parenting via Zoom
Welcoming a child into the world is a life-changing experience that presents different challenges and questions for all parents. Dr. Shilpa Ullikashi, pediatrician at Prevea St. Mary’s Health Center in Green Bay, will host a Zoom presentation at 6 p.m.
