Sader Speedway sends kindergarten off to the races

The close proximity of St. James Lutheran School to the Shawano Speedway has turned the kindergarten students into race car drivers of their own. St. James recently held its inaugural Sader Speedway. Summer Wisnefske was the champion once the dust settled and received a trophy for her efforts.
AROUND THE COMMUNITY: ‘Cloak and Dagger’ to be performed in Oconto
The Machickanee Players have rounded up the usual suspects in their latest production: “Cloak and Dagger.” Audiences will have the chance to figure out who the spy is May 13-15 and May 20-22. This spoof of “Casablanca” is written by Craig Sodaro. Nick, the café owner, hears from a fortune teller that the spy will appear wearing a cloak and carrying a dagger. Unfortunately, five lovely ladies all appear with cloaks and daggers.
Retrospect exhibit coming to WBHS
Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School has announced that Retrospect, its career and technical education student project exhibit, will be held May 18 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the school, 400 W. Grand Ave., Wittenberg. Admission is free.
CLUB NOTES: Hidden Bear Trail ATV Club
The Hidden Bear Trail ATV Club and Red Arrow Snowmobile-ATV Club held a DNR ATV Safety Course on April 23. The event was held at the Town of Lakewood Community Center and attracted students of all ages. Lead instructor was Brian Fitzpatrick. Instructors Diane Fitzpatrick, Jim Wisneski, Larry Westphal and John Brantmeier led the one-day course, and were extremely pleased with the attentiveness and participation of the students.
Lena Centennial storytelling continues
The area public is invited to the fourth in an ongoing series of Centennial Story-telling at 2 p.m. May 4 at the Lena Village Hall, 117 E. Main St., Lena. Each month, a group of Lena area residents enjoys exchanging stories from Lena’s past century.
College Notes
College of Menominee Nation College of Menominee Nation student Martina Thomas has been chosen as a recipient of the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded by American Indian College Fund (AICF) and Coca-Cola Foundation to students that are the first in their family to attend college. Thomas is a business administration major with an expected graduation date of spring 2023.

Agencies taking back drugs this weekend On April 30, law enforcement agencies in Shawano County will participate in the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative. Drugs can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bonduel Police Department, 207 S.
