The Boys and Girls Club of Shawano’s afterschool program at Hillcrest Primary School has won the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wisconsin’s 2025 Outstanding Program Award for its “Magical Donut Shop” program.
“Magical Donut Shop” was an original play performance by club members developed throughout the 2024-25 school year. All 17 kindergarten through second grade club members contributed to the production by creating props and costumes, memorizing lines and performing live for their families during a special spring event.
The spring play performance was a success, drawing a crowd of 35 family members to cheer on the participants.
Led by Hillcrest site manager Tammy Beilfuss, the program was designed to nurture imagination and creativity while also supporting social-emotional development, communication and language skills, confidence, public speaking and critical thinking.
Staff members Jen Barta, Micheala Kaquatosh and Jazzy Siegel were also instrumental in the program’s success and are enthusiastic about expanding and enhancing the program and play performance in the 2025-26 school year.
As part of the celebration, the local Dunkin’ Donuts partnered with the club to host a doughnut coloring contest during the spring family event. The club also partnered with a local nursing home, whose residents served as judges for the coloring contest and have collaborated with club members on various projects throughout the school year.
The winning design was turned into a real doughnut and featured for sale at the local Dunkin’ Donuts for one week, bringing a sweet and creative twist to the “Magical Donut Shop.” Both Dunkin’ Donuts and the local nursing home have committed to continuing their partnership with the club for the 2025-26 school year.
