The reputation of the already popular Shawano Youth League tournaments continues to grow, as players, coaches and fans from around the state enjoy the new and improved concession stand at Memorial Park this summer. “They love the new concession stand and how it’s laid out,” said Gina Bolin, head of concessions for the Shawano Youth League. A circuit court judge on Monday dismissed a Wescott property owner’s harassment claim against the manager of the Shawano City-County Airport. Robert Mueller filed a court petition July 9 seeking a temporary restraining order and/or injunction against Clarence Schampers over a stand of trees Mueller had planted on property outside of the airport fence. Schampers removed the trees in November.

The Rural Health Initiative in Shawano County has received word that the estate of a Leopolis farmer will match up to $60,000 in contributions to the organization over the next year. The gift will come from the trust of Harold E. Pevonka, a Leopolis farmer who passed away in 2011.

Shawano Police Department July 22 Police logged 14 incidents, including the following: Juvenile — A juvenile was cited for curfew violation at Center and Sawyer streets. Trespass — Police responded to a trespassing complaint in the 400 block of South Smalley Street. Assist — Police assisted Menominee Tribal Police with a drug overdose patient at Shawano Medical Center, 309 N.

Will the real vegetarian please stand up? I’m not being cynical with that question, but being realistic, at least according to data from self-identified U.S. vegetarians. First, let’s look at some of that data. According to the Vegetarian Resource Group’s annual national survey, less than 3 percent of Americans do not eat meat in any given year.

Aspiring administrators occasionally use the path around the Falls to find their way to this observer’s office to complete an assignment for a graduate class. Such was the case last week when an aspiring administrator scheduled an interview. The individual said there would only be three simple questions, and these were provided prior to the interview: 1. At 5:50 a.m. July 21, a vehicle driven by a Lena woman swerved to avoid striking a deer on Midway Road north of County Road A in the town of Lena, entered a ditch and overturned several times. Her vehicle sustained severe damage.  At 10:55 a.m. July 20, a vehicle driven by a New Berlin man was backing up and struck the Stiles Junction Food and Fuel building on Duame Road in the town of Stiles, causing moderate damage to the building.
