World of Outlaws sets speed standard

This past week’s World Of Outlaws Late Model Series visit to the Shawano Speedway was a feast for those who hunger for speed. Twenty-six of the 33 late models on hand qualified at less than twenty seconds. Fast qualifier Rick Eckert timed in at 18.883 seconds around the historic half mile to set a new standard for the fastest lap at the track. In 2012 Tim Fuller turned a lap time of 20.151 seconds as the night’s fast qualifier.

Douglas ‘Doug’ Edward Prickette
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” — 2 Cor. 5:1 Doug Prickette, a lifelong resident of Shawano, realized his dream on Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013, by returning to our Heavenly Father. He was born on April 3, 1941, in Appleton to the late Walter (Bud) and Anne (Thurner) Prickette.

Jolly ready to make most of second chance
For the first time in three years, big No. 97 will be plugging holes in the Green Bay Packers defensive front. Johnny Jolly has a fresh st art with the Packers after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstated the troubled defensive lineman in February.

Clintonville Legion beats Chilton 2-1
The Clintonville American Legion baseball team beat Chilton 2-1 to open the Class A state tournament Wednesday in Viroqua. Nick Hoegen gave Clintonville a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a double that brought home Austin Paisar, who had singled. Chilton responded in the fourth, getting a run from Tim Kolbe, on an error, to tie the game. Austin Paisar scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the seventh. Kelly Marie Kallies
Kelly Marie Kallies, 35, Oconto Falls, died Friday afternoon, July 26, 2013, and was received into God’s loving arms at the Meng Hospice Residence Center in De Pere, following a valiant, 14-month fight with cancer. She was born April 22, 1978, in Green Bay to Benedict and Anne (Sinclair) Banaszynski Jr.

Ida A. Fischer
Ida A. Fischer, 97, formerly of Cecil, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, in Appleton. Ida was born on May 20, 1916, to the late Edward and Natalie (Reindfleisch) Wilke in the town of Underhill. On Oct. 17, 1934, she married Carl Fischer.

Oconto County Sheriff’s Department
At 2:42 am. July 28, a single-vehicle accident was reported on County Road T, south of Presbyterian Road, in the town of Townsend. A male driver from Lakewood had been traveling north, swerved from one side of the road to the other, left the road, traveled down a steep embankment and overturned. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to a medical facility. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions. At 12:16 p.m.

Kernels of information reveal corn’s local value
Corn is the most widely grown crop in Marinette and Oconto counties, being planted annually on approximately 110,000 acres. The 2013 acreage will probably be down a bit, as many parts of Oconto County had planting difficulties, creating a need for crop switches or prevented planting acres.
