Volunteers to participate in Landing Blitz

The Chute Pond Clean Boats, Clean Waters volunteer team will be in action over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Volunteers and aquatic invasive species experts will educate boaters and conduct free boat checks at boat landings on Chute Pond so boaters do not accidentally spread Eurasian water-milfoil, curly leaf pond weed and other aquatic invasive species (AIS). ATV certification program planned
Hidden Bear Trail ATV Club and Red Arrow Snowmobile/ATV Club will hold an all-terrain vehicle safety course from 5:30-9 p.m. July 1 and 2 at Riverview Town Hall, 15408 State Highway 32, in Mountain. Students must be at least 11 years old and attend both sessions. However, certified youngsters cannot operate an ATV alone until they are 12. Anyone under 25 must be certified to operate on public lands. Course fees are $10 per student.

Fishing fun with fathers
About 102 people participated in the 10th annual Fishing for Fun Day on June 7 at Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya on Chute Pond. The Oconto County University of Wisconsin-Extension Parenting Resource Center along with many volunteers hosted and sponsored the event. Children received their very own fishing pole to encourage more fishing outings with their dad or adult male role model.

Oconto Falls pitcher makes tough decision
Riley Gruetzmacher will be logging a lot of miles on the road this summer. More importantly, he will be playing a lot of baseball. BayCare Clinic recognizes Oconto Falls employee
BayCare Clinic presented its quarterly Best of BayCare award to Lori Harris, an ophthalmic assistant at the Oconto Falls location of BayCare Green Bay Eye Clinic. The Best of BayCare award is a quarterly recognition given to BayCare Clinic physicians or employees who provide excellent customer service to a patient, family member or fellow staff member. 4 plead not guilty to meth charges
Four Oconto Falls residents pleaded not guilty last week to charges related to cooking methamphetamine in the back bedroom of an Oconto Falls trailer house. Wendy S. Gillett School receives STEM grant
The Gillett School District is one of 15 school districts to share $250,000 in state funding for innovative science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education projects in the coming year. Gillett was awarded $9,602 to enhance the use of its computer numerical control (CNC) milling machine in its tech ed department at Gillett Secondary School.

County receives $10K for wetlands conservation
The Oconto County Land Conservation Department received a $10,000 donation for its work to conserve wetlands and improve fish habitat in Little Suamico and Pensaukee.
