State farmers getting paid less for corn, soybeans

The average price received by farmers for corn during August in Wisconsin was $3.73 per bushel according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Agricultural Prices report. This was 35 cents below the July price and $1.90 below August 2023. Leaf collection begins Oct. 14 in Shawano
The Shawano Public Works Department has scheduled Oct. 14 for the beginning of fall curbside leaf collection. Leaves will be collected through Nov. 22. City residents should have their loose leaves at the curbside on their normal scheduled garbage collection day.

USDA issues grain stocks report for state, nation
Corn stored in all positions in Wisconsin on Sept. 1 totaled 100 million bushels, up 35% from Sept. 1, 2023, according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Grain Stocks report. Of the total stocks, 46% were stored on-farm. The June-August 2024 indicated disappearance totaled 114 million bushels, 15% below the 134 million bushels from the same quarter the previous year. Milk prices on the rise
The Wisconsin all milk price for August was $23 per hundredweight (cwt) according to the latest USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Agricultural Prices report. This was $1.10 above last month’s price and $3.80 above last August’s price. The U.S. all milk price for August was $23.60 per cwt, 60 cents higher than Wisconsin’s price and 80 cents higher than last month’s U.S.

Pulaski tennis team loses to Bay Port
Oct. 1 Bay Port 6, Pulaski 1 Pulaski’s No. 3 singles player Isabella Skalecki collected the only win for the Red Raiders in a 6-1 loss to Bay Port. Waupoose wins Oconto Invite
Oct. 1 Oconto Invitational Menominee Nation’s Bryant Waupoose III won the Oconto Invitational boys race in 17:52.9, with teammate Ryan Corn just seven seconds behind him with a second-place time of 17:59.9. Another teammate, Jason Chapman, placed 10th in 18:57.2. Francis Delabrue finished in 19th place in 19:39.1. Quinn Olson was 26th, and Michael Peters was 27th, separated by 0.4 seconds.

Panthers advance to golf sectionals
Oct. 1 Division 2 Luxemburg-Casco Regional Oconto Falls golfers placed third and Bonduel was fifth at Northbrook Golf & Grill in Luxemburg. The Seymour team won with a 387. The Panthers scored 419, and the Bears tallied 452.

De Gaspari scores five goals as Shawano clobbers Menasha on soccer field
Oct. 1 Shawano 8, Menasha 0 Shawano put together a brilliant performance in defeating Menasha in another conference matchup. Jury costs may be charged to party at fault
Once jurors show up at the Shawano County Courthouse to perform their civic duty, they get paid regardless of whether the trial goes forward or is settled 30 minutes before it is set to begin. Now, Shawano County officials are asking judges to exercise their right and assign those jury costs to the party at fault — often as much as $1,000 a day.
