Barry J. Knapp, 53, of the Town of Pella, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 16, 2024, at the ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah.
Barry Jon Knapp was born on Jan. 22, 1971, in Appleton as the son of Alfred “Al” and Sally (Grimm) Knapp. Barry was born with special needs and attended Plamann School in Appleton until his early 20s. He participated in the Special Olympics when he was a young man and enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his father.
Barry had three wonderful caregivers throughout his life — the late Julie Lehouillier, John Lorenz and Debra Lasecki. They were like his angels and lived with and cared for Barry over the years.
Barry enjoyed checking out the most recent farm auction flyers and farm equipment magazines. Watching his caretaker Debra feed the steers was also a favorite pastime.
He loved his dog, Bella, and his nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart as he would always light up when they were around for a visit. Barry was special to everyone who got to know him. He loved listening to Sally talk about Jesus as they recited their evening prayers together.
Survivors include his parents, Al and Sally Knapp; sister, Robin (Michael) Dotlich; brother, Corey (Lisa) Knapp; nieces and nephews, Lindsey Dotlich, Amanda Dotlich, Russell (Haley) Knapp, Ava Dotlich, Kendalyn (Michael) Strasburg and Logan Knapp; numerous other relatives; and his beloved dog, Bella.
Barry was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Fred and Signe Knapp; and by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Ruth Grimm.
Barry’s funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Hope Community Church in Shawano with Pastor Todd Bonnin officiating. Interment will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Pella.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
