The Oconto County Historical Society will host a presentation from author and Vietnam veteran Steve Simms at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Beyer Home and Carriage Museum, 915 Park Ave., Oconto.
Simms will speak about the Battle of Srok Rung, a Vietnam engagement that took place Nov. 7, 1967, and claimed the life of John E. Young of Oconto. His book, “Common Valor: Ambush at Srok Rung,” provides a detailed first-hand account of the battle and honors the courage of Young and his fellow soldiers.
In addition to “Common Valor,” Simms has authored a second book, “The Secret Place of the Most High,” a personal testimony reflecting on his experiences in Vietnam.
