Herbert U. Kubsh, 82, formerly of Manitowoc, and a resident of Manor Care Nursing Home in Shawano, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Manor Care.
Herbert was born on Sept. 19, 1931, in Manitowoc County, son of the late Jim “Wencel” and Eleanor (Schusta) Kubsh. Herbert grew up in the Kellnersville area and attended local schools. On Jan. 3, 1951, Herb was married to the former Mary Spaeth at Manitowoc. Mary preceded him in death on Sept. 8, 1997. He served in the United States Navy for 22 years and received his honorable discharge on July 2, 1974. Herb worked for Manitowoc Engineering, retiring in 1984, and owned and operated the Anchor Inn in Manitowoc from 1985 until 1995. He divided his time from 1995 until the present between Florida and Shawano.
Herb was a past member of Amvets Post 99 of Manitowoc, American Legion Drews-Bleser Post 88 of Manitowoc, VFW Otto-Oas Post 659 of Manitowoc and the Disabled American Veterans Manitowoc-Two Rivers Chapter 24. He enjoyed freshwater and saltwater fishing, socializing and polka music.
Survivors include his seven sons and three daughters-in-law, Randall (Linda) Kubsh, Green Bay, Ronald Kubsh, Wisconsin, Rodnycq (Kathy) Kubsh, Francis Creek, Roger Kubsh, Wisconsin, Russell Kubsh, Wisconsin, Raye Kubsh, Marshfield, and Jim (Nicole) Kubsh, Shawano; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim “Wencel” and Eleanor Kubsh; his wife, Mary Kubsh; one sister, Dorothy Nooker; and an infant son on Oct. 16, 1952.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville. Sister Gerri Krautkramer will officiate, with cremation to follow. Amvets Post 99 of Manitowoc will accord full military rites at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
