The Shawano Rotary Club recently elected officers and awarded scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
At the meeting, the club voted for Mike Morse to become the president, succeeding Gary Tauchen, who will now serve as past president. Treasurer Paula Wegner and secretary J.R. Habeck were re-elected. All officers were sworn in by Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court Judge William Kussel.
Morgan Staszak, daughter of Grant and Melinda Staszak of Bonduel, earned the Emmereth Brunner scholarship through her achievements and impressive essay that envisioned how she can help improve the world. Brunner was a farmer in Green Valley who spread agricultural advancement techniques to other countries. Staszak will attend the University of Minnesota and study architecture.
Dr. Paul Dibley scholarships were awarded to two Shawano graduates, following a vote of their fellow students with high academic achievement. Dibley was a Shawano dentist for over 40 years who headed the club’s scholarship committee for years.
Joshua Lesperance, the son of Aaron and Catherine Lesperance, already runs a business and will study business matters at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Jillian Guenther, the daughter of Josephe Guenther and Yu-Chin Fang, plans to study microbiology at UW-Eau Claire, preparing for medical school.
Each scholarship was $1,000 per student.
The Shawano Rotary, which is more than 100 years old, has engaged in activities that benefit the Shawano area and other parts of the world.
