Agnes S. Filtz

Agnes S. Filtz, 100, of Galloway, peacefully passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, at her home, under the care of her family and Compassus Hospice.

Agnes was born July 11, 1926, in the Town of Alban, the daughter of John and Alexandra (Keruchenko) Gilmeister.

On May 3, 1947, Agnes was united in marriage to Henry Filtz Sr. at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Rosholt. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1998.

The couple lived in Milwaukee for three years, then settled in Galloway where they operated a dairy farm. Agnes was a devoted and very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a lifetime member of the Rosary Society and served as president of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. She also served as a eucharistic minister and brought Holy Communion to people who were homebound, sharing her faith and offering comfort to those unable to attend Mass.

For 36 years, Agnes provided fresh flowers for the church altar, adding beauty to the place that meant so much to her. She also showed compassion to families grieving the loss of a loved one by baking desserts for them and presenting a rose in remembrance of a deceased member of the church.

Agnes also volunteered at Homme Home of Wittenberg and prayed the rosary with residents in Polish. She was a member of the Secular Franciscans in Stevens Point. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren, God and her church. Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Agnes was a caregiver to many, always willing to offer a helping hand, a kind word, or a comforting presence to those in need.

Agnes is survived by her children, Henry (Joanne) Filtz Jr., Karl Filtz, Doris Filtz, Terry (Tina) Filtz and Sandy (Bill) Lewandowski; 17 grandchildren, Charles (Connie) Filtz, Monica (Tom) Klemm, Janelle (Boone) Severson, Jesse (Melissa) Filtz, Kari (Dennis) Tryba, Joe (Krista) Filtz, Dan (Holly) Filtz, Mike (Irma) Filtz, Matt (Taylor) Filtz, Kevin Filtz, Maria Larson, Laurie Filtz Lewandowski, Eric Filtz, Ashley (Brandon) O’Conner, Allison (Chris) Jacobs, Alex Lewandowski and Mary (R.J.) Kluck; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
