Nichols scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning of its Dairyland League baseball matchup with Hortonville, but ended up on the short end of a 10-9 score June 13.
Hortonville 10, Nichols 9
The Stars improved to 6-1 in league play with a win over the Nitros June 13.
Nichols trailed 10-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning and came up with six runs.
Hortonville outhit the Nitros 14-8.
Three singles led to three runs for the Stars in the top of the third inning, but Nichols cut into the lead in the next inning with Kevin Vandenlangenberg’s two-run home run.
The Nitros tied the game with a run in the fifth inning.
Hortonville came up with a run in the sixth inning to go up 5-3 before Ty Dreier’s three-run homer in the seventh inning gave the visitors an 8-3 lead.
Winning pitcher Chris Atwood gave up five hits and three runs over six innings. Justin Krull, Jace Midbon, and Will Debrune each had two hits for Nichols. Dan Wunderlich led Hortonville with four hits.
Nichols 7, Pulaski 5
Nichols responded the following day with a win over Pulaski behind a pair of homers and four RBIs from Nick Volz.
Collin Leisgang, Marcus Jens, and Cade Johnson at the bottom of Nichols’ lineup combined for four of the team’s eight hits.
Pulaski opened the scoring in the first inning on Jarrett Olson’s RBI single.
Nichols took a 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning after Jens doubled to center field and Leisgang singled to right field.
Two walks helped Pulaski take a 4-2 lead in the third inning, but Volz tied the game at 4-4 with his first home run in the fifth inning. His second homer gave the Nitros a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Pulaski Reds tallied nine hits in the game. Jackson Meyer had three of Pulaski’s nine hits.
Johnson picked up the win on the mound, and Reese Berg took the loss.
Bonduel 9, Shawano 3
Adam Frost’s three hits helped the Broncos stay unbeaten in league play June 14 with a win over the Lobos.
Winning pitcher Jett Thielke added 10 strikeouts in Bonduel’s sixth Dairyland victory, while Jack Reinke held the Lobos scoreless over the final four innings to get the save.
Frost and Chase Reinke each had three of Bonduel’s 12 hits, while Jack Reinke added two hits, and Easton Reinke hit a home run.
Hofa Park 5, Marinette 1
Aiden Linsmeyer’s three hits helped Hofa Park pick up a win over Marinette on June 14.
Marinette opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on Joey Olsen’s RBI single, but the Panthers tied the game in the second on an error.
Hofa Park took the lead for good on Linsmeyer’s RBI single in the third inning.
Jake Olson picked up the win on the mound, and Jake McMahon took the loss for the Redbirds.
Miles Hunter drove in two of Hofa Park’s five runs, while Robbie Schuettpelz added two hits, and Peyton Dorn stole three bases.
Cecil 7, Hofa Park 1
The Mudhens took an early lead over the Panthers June 13 and never looked back.
Mason Meverden led off the game with a double and Garrett Engel followed with a run-scoring single.
Logan Thiex led off Cecil’s half of the second inning with a single. Brodie Hartman, Reese Stoltenow and Meverden followed with singles that added up to a 3-0 lead after two innings.
Engel led off the third inning with a single and stole second base before scoring on a double from Noah Beilfuss. Three more two-out singles by Isaac Boldt, Hartman and Jake Polzin and an error gave the Mudhens a 7-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.
Hofa Park scored a run in the sixth inning to complete the scoring.
Beilfuss struck out 12 batters over seven innings to get the win, and Thiex pitched the final two innings to pick up the save.
Navarino 5, Cecil 4
The Mudhens fell to the Rangers on June 14, as Mike Nompleggi threw a 148-pitch complete game, and Thiex took the loss.
Navarino scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early advantage, but Cecil answered with a run after Tucker Bouche led off the third with a double, Reese Stoltenow singled, and Bouche scored on Trace Brehmer’s sacrifice fly.
The Rangers added to their lead with single runs in the fourth and eighth innings to go up 5-1 before the Mudhens came up with three runs in the top of the ninth.
Hartman and Bouche began the rally with singles. An error, a single from Brehmer, a sacrifice fly from Beilfuss and Braden Uelmen’s single cut the lead to 5-4, but the game’s final out came with the bases loaded.
Nichols at Waupaca
The game between the Nitros and Lakemen scheduled for June 10 in Waupaca was rained out and will be rescheduled.

June 21 schedule (all games start at 1:30 p.m.): Waupaca at Shawano; Navarino at Bonduel; Nichols at Cecil; Marinette at Pulaski.
