County Road BE construction underway

Road construction is underway on County Road BE between Shawano and Bonduel, complete with detours drivers will need to plan around in the coming weeks.

The road will be closed to through traffic until June 1, with access limited to local residents and businesses along the route. County Road BE is not meant to be used as a corridor, only for people who live there or need to reach businesses.

• Kimberly A. Olsen, 42, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, pleaded no contest April 27 to misdemeanor charges of resisting/failing to stop and disorderly conduct. One charge was amended from a felony in a plea agreement. Judge Katherine Sloma withheld sentencing and placed her on 18 months of probation with conditions.

• Andrew J. Lemirande, 44, Oconto, pleaded no contest April 29 to possession of methamphetamine. Judge Kent Hoffmann withheld sentencing and placed him on two years of probation with conditions.

Suehring honored with state 4-H awards

Megan Suehring, Shawano County’s 4-H positive youth development educator, recently received two awards at the Wisconsin Joint Council of Extension Professionals Conference.

She and other honored individuals demonstrate excellence in their professional responsibilities, leadership in developing high‐quality youth programs, and commitment to positive youth development.

Opportunity Zone could spur more investment in Shawano

A revamped federal program could lead to housing and commercial investment in Shawano, according to several people who spoke at a chamber of commerce program April 29.

Opportunity Zones, first created in 2017 and operated through the White House, are now a permanent part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
