Veterans administration seeking valentines
The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) is asking for folks to help show veterans how much they appreciate their service and sacrifice by sending Valentine’s Day cards to veterans living in DVA facilities. “Last year, the residents at our Veteran Homes in Chippewa Falls, King and Union Grove were thrilled to receive Valentine’s Day wishes and thoughtful messages,” said DVA Secretary James Bond.

County board approves 2025 budget
The Oconto County Board on Oct. 31 passed a $53.789 million budget for 2025, funded in part by a $22.2 million property tax levy. The numbers represent a 7.2% increase in expenditures over the adopted 2024 budget but only a 0.7% increase in the property tax levy for county purposes.
June ag price report issued
The average price received by farmers for corn during June in Wisconsin was $4.24 per bushel according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Agricultural Prices report. This was 1 cent below the May price and $2 below June 2023. The June 2024 average price received by farmers for soybeans, at $12.80 per bushel, was $1.10 above the May price but $1.10 below the June 2023 price. The June average oat price per bushel, at $2.
Corn silking reached 58% across Wisconsin
Wisconsin had 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending July 28, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Fieldwork included harvesting hay, small grains and some potatoes. Topsoil moisture condition rated 1% very short, 8% short, 80% adequate and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 5% short, 78% adequate and 17% surplus.
Wisconsin egg production down 7% from last year
Wisconsin egg production during June was 197 million eggs, down 7% from the previous June, according to the latest Chickens and Eggs report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The average number of all layers on hand during June was 7.7 million, down 7% from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for June was 2,563, up slightly from a year ago. The U.S.
