Meshan Latender and Shawano County officials have verbally agreed to the former selling her home to pave the way for a new courthouse, jail pod and jail auxiliary services.
Latender owns the home at 211 W. Fourth St., Shawano.
“What I offered her was $120,000, and then we would pick up her back taxes and pay for closing costs because she doesn’t have any funds to pay for any of that,” Nick Hesse, Shawano County’s facilities management director, told the public property committee May 7. “This is the offer that she requested about a month and a half ago.”
Latender owes about $3,100 in back taxes. Closing costs, Hesse estimated, would be about $2,000.
According to online tax records, the property has an assessed value of $67,300 and an estimated fair market value of $79,000.
He said Realtors have told him the house could sell for about $105,000 or $110,000.
The agreement will be forwarded to the county board for final approval. The board will meet at 3 p.m. May 27.
