The number of inmates at the Shawano County Jail continues to flirt with the maximum capacity threshold, which will eventually lead to the county renting space at jails in surrounding counties.

The College of Menominee Nation has established a consortium agreement with Montana’s Fort Peck Community College, enabling students to work toward a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems across both institutions. This agreement enables students to take needed courses that are not presently available at CMN.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department could soon be looking for a new deputy as well as a new K-9.

Sheriff George Lenzner informed the public safety committee Feb. 4 that Deputy Cody Vogue, the handler of Rascal, is going through a background check for a position with Menominee County.

Mention the word “Novitiate” in Shawano and Menominee counties, and most people know exactly what you’re talking about, although even locals may be hazy on some of its historic details.

The mansion at W9653 Butternut Road in the Town of Herman has been vacant for decades, but the current owners now have plans to turn it into a hotel and event center.
