Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources fisheries specialists have spent much of January and February updating the public on various projects and trends in northeastern Wisconsin.

One of a handful of meetings, held Feb. 3 at the DNR Service Center in Green Bay, focused on trout habitat and population trends in Oconto and Marinette counties.

Thanks to the efforts of Steve and Jill Genett, high-tech golf has arrived in Oconto Falls.

The husband and wife opened In the Rough in Highland Square at 323 E. Highland Drive on Nov. 1 and have welcomed a steady stream of customers to the business, which features two golf simulators that help golfers have fun while working on their game.

James Kropf pleaded no contest Feb. 6 in a case nearly three years old involving the inappropriate touching of a child, but the sentencing in Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court was pushed back a month when the state and the defense attorney couldn’t come to an agreement on what the law said about appropriate sentencing.

Several road projects and one bridge replacement are slated for Shawano County in 2026, according to an official with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The DOT’s Tony Kemnitz ran down the list for the Shawano County Highway Safety Commission on Jan. 27.

Two projects will cover parts of state Highway 29.

• Nathaniel G. Long, 32, Shawano, pleaded guilty Feb. 2 to maintaining a drug trafficking place. Judge William Kussel Jr. levied fines and court costs totaling $1,788.

• Ashauntee M. Smith, 23, Keshena, pleaded no contest Feb. 2 to three misdemeanor charges of possession of THC. Two counts were amended from felonies in a plea agreement. Kussel levied fines and court costs totaling $1,640.50.
