Santa lands at Shawano airport in style

Santa Claus decided to leave the sleigh and reindeer at home Dec. 13 as he took a Cirrus Vision SF 50 jet to the Shawano Municipal Airport to visit more than 200 families eager for the jolly old elf to get their Christmas wishes solidified before the big night.

Floor plans being prepared for county buildings

Construction and architectural consultants will meet with Shawano County department heads this month as they begin to create floor plans for the potential new courthouse, justice center and sheriff’s department buildings.

• Montana R. Olson, 28, Suring, had her probation revoked Nov. 6 from a 2022 conviction for escape from criminal arrest. Judge William Kussel Jr. sentenced her Dec. 10 to two years in prison followed by two years of extended supervision.

• Trevon Alexander Harper, 25, Kimberly, had his probation revoked Oct. 30 after a 2024 conviction on misdemeanor charges of escape while being charged with a juvenile ordinance violation and operating a motor vehicle while his license was revoked. Judge Michael Judge sentenced him Dec. 12 to seven months in county jail with Huber work-release privileges. He received credit for 85 days already served in jail.

Deputies responded to 32 incidents, including a disturbance at North Star Casino Resort, W12180 County Road A, Town of Bartelme; a disturbance on County Road MMM in the Town of Richmond; an assault at the Shawano County Jail, 405 N. Main St., Shawano; one 911 call; three reckless driving incidents; two traffic hazards; seven crashes, four involving deer.

Speedway group given tentative green flag

Members of the Shawano Area Ag Society were tentatively given the green light to shorten the Shawano Speedway from a half mile to three-eighths of a mile.

The county’s public property took a straw poll of its members Dec. 11, and all agreed to move forward with the proposal once a few more hurdles are cleared.
