Imagine your ideal community environment. What do you see? Perhaps it’s a playground or splash pad. Maybe it’s a coffee shop. It could be an artist gallery or an auto repair shop or Laundromat.
The future of Keshena and Neopit starts with the people who know these communities best and who now have the chance to reimagine the spaces, services and experiences that can be brought to life.
The Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin is partnering with Menominee County through the Strategic Planning and Action for Revitalizing Communities Program to develop two sites for community use and advance local economic development. Building on priorities identified through the Community Needs Survey, the initiative is designed to create a shared vision for future investment while ensuring community members remain at the center of the planning process.
Now through August, community members are encouraged to participate by completing a community survey, sharing ideas through an interactive mapping tool or attending one of two community design workshops.
Feedback gathered through each opportunity will help identify priorities for future businesses, housing, community spaces, services and other investments that reflect the community’s needs and values.
The workshops will bring residents together with professionals specializing in planning, economic development, engineering, architecture and site redevelopment to discuss opportunities for each location. Participants will have the chance to share ideas, explore possibilities and provide feedback as concepts are developed throughout the day.
Each workshop will conclude with the presentation of a composite rendering based on the ideas shared during the session, offering participants an early look at the community’s vision.
The Keshena community design workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Menominee Courthouse Building, W3269 Courthouse Lane, Keshena.
The Neopit community design workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Neopit Fire Station, N3580 State Highway 47, Neopit.
Following the workshops, the concepts will be refined into final renderings and recommendations, with completed designs expected in October.
