Vote no on Voter ID law measure

To the editor, On April 1, we are being asked, by the partisan Wisconsin legislature, to vote to embed our Voter ID law into our constitution. If we do so, only the legislature will be allowed to decide what is a valid ID. This is the sixth attempt in the past year to restrict voting access. Wisconsin already has a successful Voter ID law. Investigations have shown a lack of fraud in our elections. Legislating via the constitution is a troubling precedent. This undermines the checks and balances that prevent overreach. There have been no public debates or input about this change. Embedding the present Voter ID law into the constitution will restrict current and future voting as laws or technology advances. Long-term consequences do matter. This is political gamesmanship. Please vote no to protect our current Voter ID law and freedom to vote. Thank you. Patty Luff, Marion
