SACF taking gamble with new fundraiser

The Shawano Area Community Foundation will host the Roll the Dice to Make a Difference fundraising event from 5:30-10 p.m. Oct. 24 at Stubborn Brothers Brewery, 220 S. Main St., Shawano.

ThedaCare urges kids, adults over 50 to get pneumonia vaccine

People planning to get their annual flu shot should also consider getting vaccinated against pneumonia, a ThedaCare physician has advised.

Pneumococcal disease is a serious bacterial infection that can cause pneumonia, meningitis and bloodstream infections. The pneumonia vaccine may help reduce the likelihood of developing or becoming seriously ill from pneumococcal disease, according to Dr. Samuel Beschta, family medicine physician.

Lecture brings message of Sámi reclamation to CMN

Dr. Silje Solheim Karlsen’s message traveled a great distance to connect with the College of Menominee Nation.

A professor of Nordic literature at the Arctic University of Norway, as well as an adjunct professor at the Sámi University of Applied Sciences, Karlsen is “particularly interested in decolonizing teaching practices and pedagogy related to teaching.” Last month, she presented a public lecture on recent Sámi publications.

Gresham Scholarship Fund electing board members

The annual meeting of the Gresham Scholarship Board will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 in the board room at Abby Bank, 801 Main St., Gresham.

Storytelling takes center stage when electric grid goes down

Madeline Stuewer believes storytelling is vital for communities, especially in times of uncertainty.

“It’s something that is more important than a lot of people realize — having that comfort, having a way to share your experiences with future generations, said Stuewer, director of “Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play,” which will be performed in October at the Mielke Arts Center.
