The Oconto County Sportsmen’s Alliance has plans to install a handicap-accessible fishing pier at Underhill Park on the Oconto River.

The project is being led by Bruce Kitzman, in collaboration with the Town of Underhill.

After obtaining a quote of approximately $16,000 for the platform and installation from Midwest Equipment, Dock and Lift Services, Kitzman started exploring various agencies for financial assistance or grants. After receiving approval of $10,000 in grants, the alliance is dependent on financial assistance and donations from area sporting groups and individuals to cover the balance.

Donors who contribute $100 or more will have their names engraved on a plaque, which will be installed on the pier upon completion of the project. Donations may be made in the donor’s name or in memory of someone.

Contributions can be mailed to Oconto County Sportsmen’s Alliance, 12361 Stern Road, Gillett, WI 54124 by Sept. 30.

If funds received exceed the required amount, the remaining balance will be allocated toward stocking trout in the river in April 2026.
