A Shawano County deputy is on administrative leave following the shooting of a man in the Town of Green Valley on March 10.
About 1:41 a.m., deputies with the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in the 2300 block of state Highway 22. Upon entry, deputies located a man locked inside a bathroom.
The man refused to exit the bathroom, and the subject announced that he had a gun, according to a press release. Initial attempts to resolve the issue were not successful.
The man then advanced toward the deputies with what they reported was a firearm. One deputy discharged a firearm, striking the subject. The incident was captured on body cameras.
EMS was contacted, and life-saving measures were attempted. The subject was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
No one else was injured during this incident.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting the investigation.
All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation. DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over the investigative reports to the Shawano-Menominee County District Attorney’s Office when the investigation concludes.
