The pay for the elected representatives of Shawano will remain the same after the Shawano Common Council voted unanimously Nov. 11 on the biennial measure.
The action is taken every two years prior to the start of even-yeared local election campaigns, a requirement by state law. This establishes the pay rate regardless of who might be elected.
The mayor will be paid $17,023 for 2026 and 2027, while council members will receive $4,555 annually.
The only other elected position with the city is the municipal court judge, who will receive $13,299 in 2026 and $13,499 in 2027.
“This remains unchanged from last time,” said City Clerk Lesley Nemetz. “I believe there was an increase last time.”
Election papers can be taken out Dec. 1 for the mayor, judge and alderpersons for the first, third and fifth districts, with a deadline of Jan. 6 to be eligible for the spring election, which takes place April 7. If there are more than two candidates for any of the seats, a primary election will take place Feb. 17.
