Shawano County Fair features more than the big animals and carnival rides

Sure, the Shawano County Fair has rides, animals, music and plenty of food, but it also has a variety of other activities throughout the fairgrounds.

Opening ceremonies will kick off at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 in Veterans Park.

Beer and wine judging will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 in the Crawford Center.

Show off your skills by trying to become Shawano County’s No. 1 mixologist. The Old-Fashioned Challenge will be held at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Midway Stage.

There is a $10 entry for the amateur and professional categories, with a payout in both categories.

The first 12 entries will be accepted in both categories. Participants must be 21 or older.

If you like bingo, make your way to the Bingo Building. The fun begins at 5 p.m. Aug. 28 and 12:30 p.m. daily from Aug. 29 through Sept. 1. Bingo will be played until 9 p.m. each night, except for Sept. 1, when it closes at 5 p.m.

Play for only 50 cents a card.

The coliseum will host a several events.

The livestock auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

The Dairy Futurity Show and State Fair exhibitor auction will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 30.

Catch the small animal auction at 10 a.m. Sept. 1. Pre-auction activities get underway at 9 a.m. Featured will be chickens, rabbits, geese, turkeys and ducks raised by Shawano County youths especially for this auction.

The decorated cake auction will begin at 5 p.m. Aug. 29 in the Huntington 4-H Building.

The kiddie tractor pull will be held at noon Aug. 30 by the Main Stage. Registration begins at 11 a.m.

Church services at the fair include a contemporary service at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 31 on the Main Stage.

A polka Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 31 at President’s Park.
