Shawano County was awarded a three-year grant for cybersecurity measures, according to Matt Hietpas, technology services director.
The county received $87,095.70 as part of the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program. These funds represent the federal share of project costs.
The purpose of the program is to assist state, local and territorial governments with managing and reducing systemic cyber risk.
Hietpas said the funds will be used to strengthen and monitor the firewalls that guard the county’s network connections.
He said it does not require any matching local funds, and it does not require the county to maintain the program after the grant expires.
