Dowden leads Bears to victory

Jennifer Dowden scored a career-best 32 points to lead the Bonduel High School girls basketball team to a 60-53 win over Iola-Scandinavia in a Central Wisconsin Conference-8 game Thursday in Iola. The Bears took a 14-point lead in the third quarter, outscoring Iola-Scandinavia 24-11 in the period. “Iola-Scandinavia came out gunning for us,” Bonduel coach Missy Dowden said. “We were down by 1 in the first quarter. … Halftime settled the girls down. We got everyone together on the same page offensively and defensively.” Jennifer Dowden, a 6-foot junior forward, finished with nine rebounds and five assists. “She had 28 one time her freshman year, but this was a nice night for Jen,” said Missy Dowden, who is Jennifer’s mother. “She did a nice job. She hit a couple 3s, she went inside. A couple of her points were putbacks off rebounds.” Taylor Weier and Deanna Zernicke each had 10 points for Bonduel (10-1, 6-1 CWC-8). Weier added eight rebounds, and Alexa Reinke had five points and five assists. Kylie Johnson and Brooke Phillips led Iola-Scandinavia (4-7, 2-4 CWC-8) with 11 points each.
