Edwin “Eddie” Schuh, 87, of Tigerton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at his home.
Edwin Louis Schuh was born on April 2, 1926, in the town of Germania, Shawano County, to Frank and Meta (Wolter) Schuh. Right after graduating from Tigerton High School in 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy. Eddie served during World War II aboard the USS Bunker Hill aircraft carrier until 1946. He returned home and was united in marriage on April 19, 1947, to Geraldine M. Gutho at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. The couple owned and operated the Springbrook Bar on County Road M just outside of Tigerton for 31 years. They sold the tavern and retired in 1989, and his wife preceded him in death on March 23, 1999.
Eddie was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of American Legion Post 239, all of Tigerton. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing baseball and fast-pitch softball with the tavern league. Eddie’s other interests included growing lots of vegetables, taking care of his beautiful flower gardens, going trout fishing and hunting, especially rabbits and squirrels. The couple loved traveling, taking trips to Branson, out west to Montana, and many other places around the United States. Eddie was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. His favorite pastimes were making firewood and just spending time outdoors.
Survivors include four children, Karen Diedericks, of Appleton, Anthony Schuh, of Shawano, Jeffrey (Theresa) Schuh, of Tigerton, and Gregory (Kathleen) Schuh, of Tigerton. There are four grandchildren, Tabitha (Jon) Karpf, Tracee (Brian) Holub, Paul Schuh and Eric Schuh. There are four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kernen, of Tigerton, Joyce Abel, of Appleton, Shirley Allred, of Stevens Point, and Vonnie Gutho, of Tigerton. He is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gerri, and a sister, Sylvia Springborn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Tigerton, with Deacon Patrick Berg officiating. Military honors will be provided by members of American Legion Post 239, Tigerton. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
