Ruth B. Mielke

Ruth B. Mielke, 94 of Shawano, passed away on Thursday morning, Jan. 23, 2014, at Oakhaven in Shawano, where she had been a resident for the past several years. Ruth was born May 20, 1919, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Fred and Anne (Kroenke) Wruck. Ruth attended St. James Lutheran Grade School and later graduated from Shawano High School. Following school she enlisted in the United States Navy, serving her country during World War II. She was stationed in Washington, D.C. Upon returning from service, she was united in marriage to Carl E. Mielke on Oct. 26, 1946, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The couple spent their entire married life in Shawano. Ruth had been employed as a pharmacy technician at the Cantwell-Peterson Clinic in Shawano for many years. She retired in the early 1970s. Ruth was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano where she served for many years with the Ladies Aid Society. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, reading and taking care of her family. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Gail Ann Mielke, who preceded both Ruth and Carl in death on Dec. 18, 1959, at the age of 8. Carl preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1997. Ruth is survived by four loving nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Wruck and Charles Wruck, and a sister, Irene Knitt. Funeral services for Ruth Mielke will be held on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 4 p.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service. Shawano AMVETS Post 10 will conduct military honors at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family has requested memorials to St. James Lutheran Church or the Wounded Warrior Project.
