Charles R. Nybo, 75, of Erlanger, Ky., formerly of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the Hospice of St. Elizabeth Health Care in Edgewood. Born in Red Wing, Minn., on May 24, 1938, he was a son of the late George R. and Josephine Mae (Bottomley) Nybo.
On Aug. 4, 1961, Charles married Marlene J. Northup in St. Paul, Minn. He was a retired high school teacher at Shawano High School for over 25 years, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Shawano Assembly of God, now known as River Valley Church, where he served on the Church Board, as a Sunday School teacher and as treasurer, a member of Gideons International, a member of the Shawano Board of Elections, and he attended the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Kentucky.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marlene; his son, Mark (Kathryn) Nybo, of Crescent Springs, Ky.; his daughter, Kari (John) DeClark, of Niagara; four grandchildren, Luke Nybo, John Nybo, Danielle Wagner and Brad DeClark; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene (Robert) Halverson, of Red Wing, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Curt) Petersen, of Alden, Minn.; and a host of extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at the River Valley Church in Shawano with the Rev. Dan Taylor officiating. The visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano and at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
