As part of the 30th Anniversary celebration of the Mountain-Bay State Trail, area residents and visitors are invited to experience a series of guided nature bathing along the trail walks led by outdoor enthusiast Nikole Koszarek.
The mindful walks are designed to help participants slow down, engage their senses and experience the natural beauty of the trail in a new way. Walks will take place June 27, Aug. 27, Sept. 17 and Sept. 26, all beginning at 10 a.m.
Participants will meet at the Snowmobile Pavilion, 104 E. Railroad St. in Bowler, and travel at a relaxed pace to the John Brunner Covered Bridge and back, a round-trip distance of about 1.5 miles. Multiple stops along the route will encourage walkers to focus on the sights, sounds, and sensations of the surrounding landscape.
Koszarek said the inspiration for the walks comes from a quote by author Tara Brach: “When I walk half as fast, I notice twice as much.”
“I don’t have any credentials, special training or expertise,” Koszarek said. “I just love being outdoors and trying to find something new each and every time. These walks are designed to really slow down and immerse our senses in what surrounds us.”
Koszarek reads extensively about mindfulness, wellness and personal growth, and incorporates these philosophies into her daily life.
The walks are intended for participants of all ages and abilities. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring insect repellent.
The nature bathing walks are among several special events being held throughout 2026 to celebrate 30 years of the Mountain-Bay State Trail. Additional anniversary events, including guided bike rides, educational programs and family-friendly activities, can be found on the Friends of the Mountain-Bay State Trail–Shawano County website at friendsofthemountainbaytrailshawano.org.
