Oversight of parks department could change committees

When Keith Marquardt, director of the Shawano County parks department, needs official approval for anything, he goes to the highway and parks committee. That could soon change.

Supervisor Al Kuhn, a member of the highway and parks committee, recently brought up the idea of moving oversight of the parks department to the public property committee. Kuhn is also a member of that committee.

• Angelo Tyger Perez, 42, Keshena, had his probation revoked June 30 from a 2024 conviction for felony bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. Judge William Kussel Jr. sentenced him Sept. 8 to one year in county jail.

Oconto County Court News

• Obilio Tomas Sargento Roblero, 34, Gillett, pleaded no contest June 24 to a hit-and-run involving death, in connection with an Oct. 25, 2024, crash that took the life of Thomas Roberts, 60, a retired Green Bay police detective. Judge James Morrison sentenced him Sept. 8 to 15 years in prison followed by 10 years of extended supervision with conditions.

Summer hours end at courthouse

Summer hours at the Shawano County Courthouse will come to an end Sept. 18.

Regular hours, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, will resume Sept. 21.

Summer hours would normally end with Labor Day. This year, Labor Day was also a payroll Monday for the county, making it difficult to have the transition start at that time.

City continues talks with humane society

The city of Shawano is continuing to talk with officials from the Shawano County Humane Society to see if there’s an option beyond shelling out almost $25,000 to help keep the humane society operational.
