Sacred Heart Catholic School hosted a Veterans Day celebration Nov. 11.

The event brought together students, staff, families and community members in a tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the country.

A somber crowd gathered at the Shawano County Courthouse on Nov. 11 to honor area men and women who are serving or who have served in the military.

The traditional Veterans Day ceremony featured Richard Kucksdorf, retired colonel, U.S. Army Reserves, as the main speaker.

He noted that Memorial Day is celebrated at Woodlawn Cemetery, while Veterans Day is at the courthouse.

Declining membership in the Wolf River Chapter of Wild Ones could bring an end to the local nonprofit organization.

Gail Sarnwick, president, noted in a social media post, that active memberships has dwindled, and it has become increasingly difficult to continue with the mission to promote native plants in the Shawano area.

The pay for the elected representatives of Shawano will remain the same after the Shawano Common Council voted unanimously Nov. 11 on the biennial measure.

The action is taken every two years prior to the start of even-yeared local election campaigns, a requirement by state law. This establishes the pay rate regardless of who might be elected.

Strive Behavioral Solutions opened the doors of its new building Nov. 12 with a ribbon cutting, eager to expand its work into helping children.

The new Shawano School District Office will open to the public Dec. 1 at Olga Brener Intermediate School, 1300 S. Union Street, Shawano.

School board meetings will be held at the new location beginning in December.

The move necessitates that the district administrative offices be closed to the public from Nov. 24-28, which coincides with the district’s Thanksgiving break.
