A Neopit couple whose infant child suffered burns to the torso and broken bones have each been indicted by a federal grant jury on single counts of child abuse and child neglect.
If convicted, Louis A. Tucker, 23, and Nyomi L.M. Acosta, 21, each face a maximum of 17 1/2 years in prison, a period of supervised release and fines.
The indictment alleged that, on Sept. 29 and Oct. 20, the couple struck the infant on the head and body fracturing the left radius and ulna. They are also alleged to have caused a scalding burn to the child’s back and torso.
The injuries are alleged to have caused great bodily harm to the child and constitute child abuse.
The child neglect charge alleged that during this same time period, the couple, for reasons other than poverty, negligently failed to provide necessary care and medical care for the child. The alleged negligence also seriously endangered the child’s physical, mental and emotional health.
The child victim is only identified in the indictment as being born in 2025.
The couple was indicted on Dec. 9 and arraigned on Dec. 16, during which a Feb. 23, 2026 trial date was set.
The defendants were detained in the Menominee Tribal Jail as of Dec. 19.
