Love of horses inspires new barn quilt

Shawano County’s 384th barn quilt, a unique stained-glass pattern called Just Horsing Around, is now on display on a barn owned by Jay and Trisha Selle at W6873 Robin Road, Wittenberg. The quilt was a Christmas gift to Jay and Trisha from their children, Jay and Amber Selle, Kevin Rash and Jess, and Dustin and Regan Rash. Jay is originally from Tigerton while Trisha is from Texas. They moved to Wittenberg from Texas five years ago to be closer to Zach and Amber, who live just a few miles away on Cardinal Lane with their three young children. When Jay and Trisha moved to Wittenberg, they purchased 16 acres, along with the house and a cattle barn. The barn was remodeled to provide stalls for their six horses, which include Percheron draft horses as well as quarter horses. The Percherons are used to bring logs in from the woods and to give buggy rides, especially at the Caroline Colorama each fall, while the quarter horses are for riding. “Jay and I just love the barn quilt,” Trisha said. “The colors are magnificent and the name, ‘Just Horsing Around,’ is perfect because we just love horsing around with our horses.” The quilt was painted by the Shawano County Barn Quilt committee and was put on display by LeRoy and Keenan Raddant, who work for Raddant Electric in Shawano.
