Kids bring story of 'Pinocchio' to life

More than 40 local children performed an original musical adaptation of the classic tale, “Pinocchio,” Aug. 10. “Pinocchio” was presented in two performances at the Falls Area Performing Arts Center by the Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts in association with Missoula Children’s Theatre. The local cast featured Leah Wons at Pinocchio, Madeleine Sprout, Blue Fairy, Addison Hatch, Jiminy Cricket, Matthew Courchaine, Fox, and Madeline Knutson, Cat. Also featured were Kayley Van Den Eng, Lauren Pommier and Aailyah Fowler as puppets; Liam Spillane as Pinocchio’s tough friend, Candlewick, and Simon Pumplun, Connor Romandine, Alex Spang and Aidan Spillane as Candlewick’s crew. Aliza Dickinson, Caitrin Lonzo, Lyndsey Luebke, Mikayla Morrell, Grace Oninski, Adeline Pumplun, Andrea Spang, Olivia Spang, Emily Umentum and Laken Wall appeared as urchins. Torrence Fowler, McKenzie Jackson, Cora Kaczmarowski, Caitlyn Krejcarek, Tess Maggio, Helen Marquardt, Lauren Meyer, Sophia Wons and Shelbee Woods were the Pleasure Isle kids. Addyson Behnke, Sophia Collar, Grace Ferfecki, Gwen Maggio, Grace Molitor, Chloe Sampley, Faith Shamburek, Grace Shamburek and Julia Zablocki were the masterfully crafted toys. Blaire Smith and Rachel E. Bailey from Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) served as directors for the one-week artist-in-residence event. Accompanist for the performances was Mary Slavek, of Green Bay. Amy Thiel and Don Voermans coordinated the event. The MCT residency was presented by the Oconto Falls Friends of the Arts with additional sponsorship by CenturyLink, Neva Hodge-Lemorande and ST Paper. It was presented in conjunction with the Oconto Falls School District summer school program.
