Jeannette M. Ashley, 85, of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Jan. 20, 2014, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah where she had been a patient for the past week.
Jeannette was born May 23, 1928, in Wrightstown, a daughter of the late Frank L. and Vera (Roebke) Huntington. She attended school in Wrightstown. Following school Jeannette worked as a secretary at Standard Oil Company in Green Bay. On April 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Garth Ashley at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Following their marriage the couple moved to Shawano. She had been employed at Hotz Manufacturing in Shawano and later as a secretary at the University of Wisconsin-Extension in the Shawano County Courthouse until her retirement.
Jeannette was a good and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She loved to crochet and attend craft shows. Jeannette did enjoy and occasional trip to the casino when the opportunity presented itself. Her husband, Garth Ashley, preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2013.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Amy (James) Reiter and Jill Ashley, both of Shawano, and Kim (Phil) Jurgenson, of Sneads Ferry, N.C. Jeannette leaves eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, L. Frank (Barb) Huntington, of Verona; her sisters, Ramona Willkomm, of Reno, Nev., Myrtle (Leon) Ott, of Ivina, Utah, Enola (Ralph) Staeven, of De Pere, Suzanne (Roger) Ziemer, of Howard, Karen Christianson, of Mesa, Ariz., and Kathy Huntington, of Appleton. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jeannette was preceded in death by one son, Gary Ashley; two brothers, Roger Huntington and Vern Huntington; as well as two sisters, Donna Miller and Dawn Heindl.
A funeral Mass for Jeannette Ashley will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano. The Rev. Luke Ferris will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday after 9 a.m. until the hour of Mass on Friday.
