Victim identified in Sept. 20 crash

The traffic report for a fatal Sept. 20 crash in the Town of Gillett was released Oct. 4, including the names of those involved.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Department report indicates that the victim of the crash was Wayne David Couillard, 24, of Gillett, whose was driving an SUV that struck a pickup truck head-on on state Highway 22 near the intersection of County Road P. Couillard was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup was driven by Matthew David Schultz, 22, of Sobieski, who was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay along with Couillard’s 2-year-old son, Malachi, a passenger in the SUV, with what the report describes as suspected serious injuries.

The report says Couillard was southbound on Highway 22 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with Schultz’s truck, then rolled and came to rest on the highway. The pickup spun into the north ditch.
