Tigerton boys defeat Newman Catholic

Eight players from Laona/Wabeno scored in the Rebels’ 58-17 win over Gillett’s boys basketball team.

Brandon Slatky led the six Tigers who scored with four points.

Friday, Jan. 2

Seymour 76, Shawano 47

Shawano trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half before knotting the score halfway through the second half. But then, the Thunder rolled and scored more than 30 points while keeping the Hawks in single digits to return home with a 76-47 win.

Collin Dieck and Jackson Nordin led Shawano with 12 points each. Nordin and Cooper Boucher each had five rebounds, with Dieck collecting three steals, and Boucher and Dieck each getting two blocks.

Grayson Swedberg had four assists.

St. Mary Catholic 71, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 54

The Zephyrs and Chargers played a close first half with St. Mary Catholic up 36-32 at the break and then pulling away in the second half en route to a 71-54 win.

It was the first loss of the season for Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

Senior Zandyr Barke led Wittenberg-Birnamwood with 25 points, followed by senior Oliver Fraaza with 18.

Fraaza led with eight rebound, while Barke contributed seven and junior Milo Salvesen had four. Fraaza and Barke each had two steals. Fraaza also led his teammates with six assists, with junior Logan Gibson dishing out five.
