Gresham ice rink awaits winter weather

Community resources came together in a hurry to establish an ice rink in downtown Gresham. Annette Ejnik, owner of Pa’s Ice Cream Shoppe on Main Street, recently purchased the old, rarely used volleyball court across the street from Pa’s. The autumn leaves had fallen, and she wanted to make use of the property for winter activities.
Christmas cantata returns to Gillett
For the first time in two years, there will be a Christmas cantata at St. John’s Lutheran Church (the “Clock Church”) at 101 W. Main Street in Gillett. An ecumenical choir will present a 45-minute musical celebration of “Christmas in His Presence” with singers and narration at four performances, two before Christmas: 7 p.m. Dec. 17 and 7 p.m. Dec. 21. After Christmas there will be performances at 7 p.m. Dec. 29 and a final performance at 2 p.m.
Sobecks honored with Lions Community Service Award
Dan and Joan Sobeck were presented the Lena Lions Community Service Award by Lena Lion President Lisa Misco during the club’s annual Christmas banquet at the Holiday Inn Kelly Lake. NWTC offers code class for youth, community
Northeast Wisconsin Technical College campuses in Marinette and Oconto Falls will host a free in-person hour of code class on Dec. 11 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Elementary, middle and high school students are welcome to attend. Members of the general public who have an interest in coding are also welcome. No experience in programming is needed.
Club Notes: Lena Lions
The Lena Lions Club honored Samara Katelyn Van Ark, daughter of Lee Van Ark and Carrie Smith, as the student of the month for November. Van Ark is a senior at Lena High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society and the student council. Van Ark is an active member of the cross country, basketball and track teams.
Holt and Balcom concludes successful season
The Holt and Balcom Logging Camp Museum in Lakewood has concluded a successful 2021 season after going dark last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. There was only one school tour, as 17 Suring fourth graders and their teacher enjoyed living like lumberjacks May 17. Salvation Army in need of bell ringers
The Salvation Army of Shawano County is in need of volunteers to ring bells during the Red Kettle Campaign, which runs through Christmas Eve. The bell ringing stations are located at Charlie’s County Market, Qualheim’s True Value and at each Walmart entry. Ringing takes place on Fridays and Saturdays during the season from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
