Two people were injured Thursday morning when a van collided with a pickup on state Highway 32 at Middle Drive in Angelica. The crash was still being investigated, but initial investigation indicated that a Dodge Caravan driven by a 33-year-old Green Bay man failed to yield at a stop sign on Middle Drive and continued onto Highway 32, where the van was hit by a Chevy truck driven by a 71-year-old Krakow man, according to the Shawano County Sherif

Pre-demolition work has begun on the former Country Store building on South Main Street to make way for Family Dollar’s move from East Green Bay Street. “They’re cleaning it up. Asbestos remediation, stuff like that,” Shawano Building Inspector Mike Miller said. Miller said he was not aware of any time line for the project.

Hawks fall to Hortonville The Shawano Community High School volleyball team was swept by Hortonville in a Bay Conference match Thursday in Hortonville. The Polar Bears (1-0) won 25-8, 25-14, 25-23. The Hawks (0-2) were led by Erika Dunnam, who had 15 digs and four kills. Peyton Going had five kills and seven digs.

The Shawano Community High School boys cross-country team took third and the girls took sixth Thursday at the Bay Port Invitational at Meadowbrook Park in Howard. Appleton North won the boys meet. Two Rivers won the girls meet. The Shawano boys were led by Jake Klister, who finished in 17 minutes, 35 seconds and was fifth.

The Shawano Community High School boys soccer team stayed undefeated in the Bay Conference on Thursday, knocking off Austin Mahlik and visiting Marinette 2-0. The Hawks held Mahlik, the Marines’ leading scorer and one of the best in the state, without a goal. “That was our goal today, try to shut him down and try to get a goal ourselves,” Shawano coach Bob Croschere said.

Green Bay Packers Sustain drives The Packers have shown their ability to be a quick-strike offense so far this season. The offense has put together several drives of over 60 yards in under two minutes. The no-huddle and big plays work for the Packers. But the Packers’ offense has also shown it can misfire with three-and-outs disrupting the otherwise high-flying show.
