He proved it in the classroom, becoming this year’s valedictorian. He proved it on the football field, where he won several awards.
The Shawano City-County Library’s summer reading program, “Fizz, Boom, READ!,” begins June 2.
Registration for the program, which runs through Aug. 30, is under way at the library, 128 S. Sawyer St., Shawano.
Participants will receive a log to track the time spent reading or listening to books. Each sticker equals 15 minutes.

Maintaining a drug trafficking place
A Michigan man caught up in a police drug operation in Shawano over the weekend was charged Thursday with maintaining a drug trafficking place for allegedly delivering marijuana out of his vehicle.
Truman D. Hawkins, 45, also faces a felony count of possession with intent to deliver marijuana.
Bowler Elementary School
GiiTaa’se Singers of Bowler visited kindergarten through second-graders at Bowler Elementary recently to give a cultural presentation, focusing on pow-wows and other related activities. The leaders of the singers, Gordie and Patricia Williams, are proud grandparents in the district.
The Gresham Community High School boys golf team took third, Wittenberg-Birnamwood was fourth, Menominee Indian seventh, Bonduel eighth and Marion ninth at the Central Wisconsin Conference championship Thursday at Foxfire Golf Course.

With a 1-0 win over Seymour on Wednesday, the Shawano Community High School girls soccer team secured the third seed in the Bay Conference tournament, which begins Thursday.
The Hawks (10-6, 5-2 Bay) beat Seymour (3-7-1, 3-4) on a Morgan Klitzke goal in the 78th minute of the match.
Margaret “Maggie” Lapp, 74, of Clintonville, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah.
The former Margaret A. Laux was born July 27, 1939, in Clintonville to Charles and Mary (McCarthy) Laux. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1957 and then went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a year. Maggie was united in marriage on May 27, 1961, to Donald G. Lapp at St.
Despite a forecast of unseasonable cool temperatures and the possibility of rain Friday, approximately 170 vehicles were featured at the Spring Cruise Car Show in Clintonville.
