Peters Concrete Company is the apparent low bidder for the state Highway 22 project scheduled to begin this spring in Oconto Falls. The Green Bay company submitted a bid of $3,945,104, according to the state Department of Transportation, which opened bids March 10.

A one-time extension will be provided to producers for the new safety-net programs established by the 2014 farm bill, known as Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC). The final day to update yield history or reallocate base acres has been extended one month, from Feb. 27 to March 31.

A week after Del Monte Foods acquired Sager Creek’s Oconto Falls operations, the company announced it would close the facility and a canning plant in Pulaski, laying off 14 workers in Oconto Falls and affecting more than 200 jobs overall. Del Monte acquired Sager Creek Vegetable Co.

Shirley Mae Marquardt, 82, Green Bay, formerly Oconto Falls, died Saturday evening, March 21, 2015, at a Green Bay hospital. She was born Feb. 3, 1933, in Marinette to Jess and Hazel (Lynch) Faucett. As a teenager, Shirley moved with her family to Oconto County, where she attended Oconto Falls High School. On April 10, 1950, she married Neil Marquardt in Oconto Falls.

St. John Lutheran Church, Townsend, invites the community to its Holy Week services. Abrams Spotlight Productions Inc. will present “Nunsense” in seven performances at The Byng Community Theater in Abrams. “Nunsense,” with book, music and lyrics by Dan Goggin, begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover their cook has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters. Youth who have completed grades three through six are invited to attend summer camp at Camp Bird, located near Crivitz in Marinette County. The University of Wisconsin-Extension summer camp for Oconto and Marinette counties will take place Saturday, June 13, to Tuesday, June 16. Campers will participate in a variety of activities, including swimming, arts and crafts, recreation, nature and campfire.
