Richard D. Davis, 73, of Mountain, and formerly of Navarino, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Richard was born in Oconto Falls on Sept. 26, 1941, to the late Millard and Melicia “Toots” (Lambrecht) Davis.

A majority of the Shawano Common Council on Wednesday felt there were still too many unanswered questions to grant a conditional use permit that would have allowed a local nonprofit group to operate an emergency homeless shelter. Shawano Area Matthew 25 had been looking to lease a vacant building at 213 E. Green Bay St. for the shelter.

The Shawano County Barn Quilt Project was envisioned as a maximum of 25 quilt pieces to help celebrate the county’s rich dairy history. That number has increased 12-fold, as the 300th barn quilt in the project was installed Wednesday at the Chuck and Mary Lou Kugel farm in the town of Waukechon.

The Gillett City Council on Thursday agreed to several changes to the deputy clerk/deputy treasurer position due to an impending retirement. Leone Christensen, 64, will retire July 31, following 25 years as clerk/treasurer or deputy clerk/deputy treasurer. The council will cut Christensen’s deputy position from full time to 20-25 hours a week, starting July 31.

A manhunt that began Friday afternoon in Oconto Falls triggered emergency phone alerts to approximately 8,000 people in southern and central Oconto County. In a message from Tim Magnin, director of Oconto County Emergency Management, people were told to be on the lookout for a white man, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing about 130 pounds, with short black hair and tattoos on his face, neck and arms.
