The invasion has begun. Usually the ants arrive a bit earlier, but this year they waited till the end of June, and came in full force. Now there are ants in the bathroom, ants in the living room, ants in the kitchen (but not on the counter) and ants in the office. In order to set up a counter attack, I tried to figure out the main area of activity.

There have been a number of Brunch on the Farm events in the state to celebrate June Dairy Month. Sharing the farm with people who might not be aware of exactly how their food is produced is at the heart of agriculture awareness. Last year, my brother and his family hosted the brunch on the farm I grew up on, and it was an event for our whole family. We realized just how much work goes into preparing the farm for this huge undertaking.

Nancy Amundson uses her sewing skills to make items to donate to Safe Haven. Amundson was born in Racine and graduated from Horlick High School. She earned a degree and worked as a dental assistant, then went into bank operations in Racine and Eau Claire. She was employed by Midwest Dental in Mondovi, followed by Mayline Company in Sheboygan. To the editor: Sheriff Wright didn’t ask me to write this article, nor did I tell him that I was going to. Why would a sheriff from a different county write an article for Sheriff Wright? Being sheriff is a very powerful position in county government. The sheriff’s position is the lead law enforcement officer in the county. The sheriff can stand for what is right or can be influenced by other people in the county.

Former Shawano Speedway hot shoe Ben Banaszynski stopped at the track during Saturday’s prep session and spent some time telling old stories to his future grandson-in-law, Bobby Reiter. Banaszynski, at 76 years young, shared the story of how he bought his first race car for $600. He said the car was fast but not fast enough.
