To the editor: Only government bureaucrats who have made a career of spending other people’s money could be so ignorant as to how to run an efficient operation and minimize cost to shareholders, aka: taxpayers. The proposal to maximize tax levies simply because “we can” is unconscionable.

Carlyle “Sonny” G. Reeck, 74, of the town of Pella, Shawano County, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at the Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah. “Sonny” was born on Sept. 2, 1939, in the town of Dupont, Waupaca County, the son of the late Emil and Cora (Thompson) Reeck. He was raised in the town of Dupont, where he attended Pioneer School.

Nellie A. Kessen, 91, Birnamwood, died on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Bohlman Manor, Birnamwood, under the care of her family and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. She was born on Jan. 27, 1923, in the town of Rosendale, Fond du Lac County, the daughter of the late William “Fred” and Clara (Wegner) Pietz. Nellie was raised on the Pietz family farm and was the youngest of 12 siblings. On Aug.

David S. Craven, 52, of Clintonville, formerly of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, Aug. 7, 2014, at his residence. David was born March 23, 1962, in Charleston, South Carolina, a son of the late James D. Craven and Dagmar Valeria Snelson. He attended school in South Carolina, later moving to Texas with his family. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, Texas, with the class of 1980.

Gerald Arlen “Jerry Waub” Waubanascum started his journey to the Spirit World on Thursday evening, Aug. 7, 2014, in Shawano. Jerry Waub was born on Jan. 30, 1953, in Keshena, a son of the late William Sr. and Mary Ann (Waupoose) Waubanascum. He was employed as a certified caregiver in Menominee County. Jerry Waub was a member of Big Drum and an avid outdoorsman.

Vernon L. Ainsworth, 79, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, in Appleton. Born on Oct. 29, 1934, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Henry and Pauline (DeSwarte) Ainsworth. On Aug. 17, 1963, Vernon was united in marriage to Betty Thimke in Shawano. Together they made their home on his family farm, which was established in 1898. Vernon worked on the farm until retirement in February 2014.

Wow! “Suessical the Musical” sold out all performances! The colorful costumes, happy songs and joyful cast of characters warmed everyone’s hearts. A new Little Free Library sponsored by the Monday Night Book Club, aka Wine, Women and Words, has been installed at Shawano Lake County Park.
