Trees provide many benefits to the environment and our health and well-being. To the editor: Millions of Americans could be forced to jump through new hoops just to cast a ballot next year if the U.S. Senate passes the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The House of Representatives has already passed this act. Wisconsin voters must presently show a legal ID to vote, but this bill would additionally require proof of citizenship. This is a dangerous step toward voter suppression.

Jerome J. Bushman, of Bonita Springs, Florida, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Fort Myers, Florida. Local legislators are making a pitch for the state to help pay for some of the safety needs associated with the NFL draft taking place in Green Bay on Aug. 24-26. “Ensuring the success and safety of an event of this size requires an enormous amount of public resources,” said state Rep. Costs of required services provided by the Shawano County Department of Human Services continue to rise as state allocations fail to keep pace.

Venture Architects has been chosen by a pair of Shawano County Board committees to complete a facilities master plan and schematic designs for county properties. The contract will not exceed $110,000. It was approved by the executive committee and the public property committee, with the county board set to debate the issue April 15.

Megan Suehring, Shawano County 4-H positive youth development educator, recently completed the 2024-25 term as president of the Wisconsin Association of Educators & 4-H Youth Development Professionals.
