Shawano 42, Green Bay United 25
The boys’ matches between Shawano and Green Bay United started with several forfeits, but by the time the entire match was done, Shawano won comfortably 42-25.
Both teams forfeited at 106, and Shawano’s Nikkolas Waukau and Cashton Panske also won by forfeits at 113 and 120, respectively.
Wrestling action began at 126 pounds, when Dane Hodkiewicz earned a tough win over Preston Madison 8-7.
At 132, Dylan Gartner lost by fall to Taj VanRemortal in 2:23, and at 138, Austin Stickney lost to Elijah Pukel 9-0. Then, at 144, Collin Piper lost a close match to Brody DeJardin 10-6.
The Hawks got back on track when Kian Morstad pinned GBU’s Elijah Barnczyk in 2:58 at 150.
A string of Shawano wins followed. At 157, Kody Popelka earned a fall in 4 minutes over GBU’s Logan Johnson. At 165, Marcus Brezgel won a close match against Luke Rissling of GBU 4-2. Then, at 175, Jorel Shaver earned a fall over Brady Ristow of GBU in 2:26, and at 190, Drew Chelberg earned a fall over Adan Sandoval of GBU in 22 seconds.
Shawano forfeited at 215, and at 285, Brayen Boivin lost by fall to Jesse Mora of GBU in 2:55.
“I thought Kian Morstad, Marcus Brezgel and Kody Popelka showed up too very well in the middle of our lineup,” coach Mike Homan said. “They really took control when we needed it most. Kian was dominant, and Marcus gutted out a big win. Kody really stepped up with a pin in a tough match, especially with short time winding down.
“Jorel Shaver really did a good job finishing his match for a fall as well. It was a good night on the mat for him as he really put the dual meet out of reach for GBU.”
The boys are 4-0 on the year.
