Hawks hockey team wins fifth straight

The Shawano Hawks defeated the Medford Red Raiders 5-2 in Medford on Dec. 11 capping a four-game road trip that has been a part of five straight wins for the Hawks.

After a scoreless first period, Medford scored at 1:08 in the second to take a 1-0 lead.

Shawano/Bonduel responded in three goals before the period ended. Gavin Hundt scored with assist from Cameron Schroeder and Max Huntington. Wyatt Schroeder scored with Quinten Harkey assisting, and Hundt scored unassisted.

Medford scored just 50 seconds into the third period to make it 3-2, but the Hawks answered with two more goals to secure the win.

Blake Svedberg scored at 12:18 with help from Kielian Armbruster, and Armbruster scored at 13:59 with Cameron Schroeder assisting.

Shawano goalie Tyson Lyons recorded 18 saves on 20 shots. Medford’s Cashton Reis had 20 saves on 23 shots, and Jaxston Malzahn had 13 saves on 15 shots.

The Raiders were called for two penalties for seven minutes, while the Hawks were called for three infractions for six minutes.

The Hawks are now 5-1 on the season and off to their best start in school history.

They return home to take on Waupaca at 7 p.m. Dec. 18.
